ADANSI N: Akrokerri Community Mining Project launched

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh has officially launched the Akrokerri Gold Stone Community Mining Project in Akrokerri.

The Minister acknowledged that the Anglogold Ashanti Mines employed a total number of 4,500 people whereas the community mining projects across the country are aimed at recruiting 200,000 people for employment, therefore, adding to the mining sector employment rate in the country.

He said the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo is committed to improving standards of mining in the communities to boost development in the country.



Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh, therefore, urged all eligible voters to retain the President in power to enable him to accomplish more developmental projects in the country.

Cautioning the community miners on their work operations, the Minister counseled them on the need to mine 200 metres away from any water body in order not to contaminate or disrupt the water flow.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Kusi Kwaku Eric announced that the youth in Akrokerri and its environs will have the opportunity to engage in the mining project and urged them to invest proceeds from their toil to speed up development in the community.

He further assured the youth that, they will no longer have to flee from their mining sites because of police presence as the community mining is a legal mining project and urged the miners to abide by all regulation set for the project.



The Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Minerals Commission, Mr. Martin Ayisi cautioned against the involvement of Chinese Nationals in the mining project and stressed the commissions regular visits to the mining sites to inspect operations of the miners.

The queen mother of Akrokerri Nana Serwaa Bruwah II who chaired the occasion was thankful to Gold Stone Mining Company and was hopeful that, the unemployment situation in the community would soon be a thing of the past.

Residents in Akrokerri expressed their excitement about the project and asked that operations commence soon.
