NADOWLI: DCE calls for peace and unity among residents

Mrs. Kathrine Lankono, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Nadowli-Kaleo, has called on people in the area to maintain the prevailing peace and unity to boost development and improve livelihoods.

She said the area would remain peaceful and stable for economic growth if all grievances were channeled through legitimate institutions for redress.

The district is diverse with two strong traditional areas, the Nadowli and the Kaleo traditional areas which need to be looked at in terms of developing the area, she said.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, she said the only way President Nana Akufo-Addo could realize his vision of Ghana Beyond Aid was for peace and unity to prevail in the country.

She said even though there were no disturbances in the district at the moment, there were few chieftaincy-related outstanding matters that are of great concern to the District Security Council.

The DCE urged the people to maintain the peace being experienced currently to attract central government attention and pave way for speedy development.

For the district to benefit from the government's flagship programmes like 1D1F, and the one village one dam then we need to maintain peace and be united at all cost, she said.

Madam Mary Asunta, the District Director of Ghana Education Service (GES), said plans are advanced for government to absorb the Sombo Day Senior High School into the public school system.

She called on stakeholders to speed up the process with the Ghana Education Service to enable the central government to absorb the school into public Senior High Schools.

â€œThe District Education Unit has followed up with the Regional and National Education Directorate and I can confirm there is progress and the school is likely to be absorbed on the 2019/2020 academic year, she said.

The school became a subject for discussion when they were placed second for displaying their skills professionally at the 62nd Independence Day Match competition.

The School started in September 2015 and has a student population of about 100 studying Business, Home Economics, and General Arts.

The school is currently managed by the community with some support from the Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency, Mr. Alban Bagbin.
