According to him, the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ was the answer to the twin-problem of migration of the youth to urban centres in search of non-existing jobs and the shameful spectacle of importing foodstuffs from neighbouring countries.
Addressing a cross section of Assembly Members and Heads of Department at the Assembly’s Third Ordinary meeting at Kenyasi, the DCE called on the youth to take up the responsibility and take active part in the programme.
He said, only 412 farmers were benefitting from the programme so far, a figure he said was woefully below the targeted 2000 farmers to participate in the programme.
He therefore urged Assembly Members to encourage their electorates to take advantage of the opportunity to improve their standard of living, adding that the assembly still has in-stock enough seedlings and fertilizers for interested farmers.
In a related development, the DCE further announced that this year’s farmers’ day celebration will be held at Ntotroso, a farming community in the district.
He urged Assembly Members to grace the occasion by being present on that faithful day to help salute and encourage our gallant farmers.
