According to the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Hon. Collins Ntim,(MP) who led the delegation, initiatives such as Planting for food and jobs, Planting for exports and rural development, Raring for food and jobs, greenhouse units, district mechanization centres, etc are being charged by Assemblies.
Hence, the Ministry’s decision to monitor the positions of Assemblies through its various heads of departments have been positioned throughout the Covid-19 era to ensure a successful implementation of the initiatives.
District director for Ghana Health Services, Mr. Foster Nyarko who presented on the District’s health status highlighted that there are currently holding and quarantine centres, extensive surveillance, sensitizations, daily reporting from all health centres within the district and routine sample collections which are transported to testing centres.
He called for more PPE’s whilst acknowledging the Assembly, MP, Traditional Councils, Newmont Ghana, and some other groups and individuals for their proactive steps taken by donating PPE’s to them.
Mr. Foster Nyarko also stressed that even though they’ve received 69 rumor complaints cases and 11 suspected cases, all have turned out with negative results.
According to the District Director for Agriculture, Mr. Paul Boakye highlighted that, there’s been difficulty by farmers to transport their produce to market centres due to the restrictions on Motorcycles and Pragya movements and later ban on market activities for four weeks resulted in perished goods and loss of income.
He added that working hours for some farmers reduced, due to the closure of schools because they were forced to stay home and cater for their young wards.
Mr. Collins Ntim commended the district on its level of collaboration between the heads of departments and tasked them to continue on the same trajectory. He was however not pleased with the Assembly’s outcome on the Planting for Export and Rural Development initiative and called for arrangements for more action to yield better results.
Chief Executive Officer of the District, Hon. Anthony Adjei Mensah who spoke to the press expressed gratitude for the Minister’s unbiased assessment and promised that the Assembly in collaboration with Agric Directorate will sit and make sure the target for Planting for Export and Rural Development is exceeded in the few weeks.
He also stated that the Assembly is currently working on providing support for Rice and Coconut farmers because the lands in the district has the potential for high harvest yield.
