Afigya Kwabre S. Education Directorate Holds Maiden Inter-Circuit Art and Culture Tournament
Date Created : 7/9/2025 12:00:00 AM : Story Author : Susana Danso/Ghanadistricts.com
The competition included participation from selected schools in the district. It featured performances in areas like cultural dance, cultural activities including "ampe" and the exhibition of artifacts to promote art and culture among the students and to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the district.
The District Chief Executive, Pearl Patricia Ankrah, in her welcome address, urged the students to be submissive and obedient to their teachers and allow themselves to be guided by the rules and regulations of their schools for proper upbringing and a well-groomed future.
Quoting from part of the Bible to support her claim, she stressed the need for children to obey the elders or parents at all times. She cited instances of negative activities on social media whereby students could be found confronting their teachers which she described as despicable.
Hon Ankrah appealed to female students in particular, to refrain from anti-social tendencies like unwanted pregnancies which could ruin their future career. She encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies as that would produce a fruitful result.
According to her, the exhibition of submissiveness could be productive and beneficial to themselves, their parents, teachers and the nation at large.
Mr. David Akomea Asokwa, the District Director of Education called on parents not to be only spectators or participants during such events but to learn some lessons from it for their own benefit.
He sensitised parents on the risks and negative impacts of harmful social practices by their children while they looked on unconcerned. Mr. Asokwa noted with concern that the key contributing factor of present-day girls’ code of dressing was because parents seemed to shed their responsibilities by refusing to rebuke such practices which was contrary to our culture and custom norms.
He pointed out that the absence of active engagement by parents with their children usually produced negative cultural habits as witnessed during the "ampe" performance where tight-fitting clothes were worn, calling for the provision of right materials for a particular occasion.
The Director hinted that the students would be embarking on similar event next week in another district and appealed to parents to release their children for rehearsals prior to the occasion.
