One million dollars one constituency projects working in Amenfi West - MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive for Wassa Amenfi West, Mr George Agyiri, has said the One Million Dollars One Constituency initiative through the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPERD) was working steadily in the Municipality.

He said through the programme a number of projects including the construction of mechanized boreholes, toilet facilities with mechanized water system, market complex and electricity sub-station at Asankrangwa, Odumasi, Moseaso, Tigarikrom and other communities have been successfully completed.

Mr Agyiri said this during the Municipal maiden "Meet the Press" encounter at Asankrangwa in the Wassa Amenfi West Municipal of the Western Region.

The interaction was maily to present government's flagship programmes and interventions implemented in the Municipality.

On education, the MCE said the Free Senior High School Policy was on course and that the intake to the Asankrangwa Senior High Technical School had increased from 470 to 1176, while the Asankrangwa Senior High School also increased from 1,275 to 1441.

He said 3,000 school uniforms have been supplied to some Basic Schools in the Municipality.

Mr Agyiri said more educational projects have been completed and others were on-going at Asankragwa Senior High School (ASANCO), Kwabeng, Asankrangwa Senior High Technical School (ASTEC), Moseaso.

He said plan were far advanced to construct a modern Municipal Education office at Asankrangwa, adding that the Assembly had also constructed ICT centres with internet connectivity for twenty-two schools, both Senior High Schools and Junior High Schools as well as other agencies in the Municipality.

On agriculture, Mr. Agyiri said the Municipality was benefiting from the Planting for Food and Jobs programme where more than 1,132 farmers have been supplied with farming inputs.

He said the Municipality was also benefitting from the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) Programme where 98,000 cocoa seedlings and 2,000 economic trees have been raised and distributed to 326 farmers in 18 communities.

Mr Agyiri also highlighted on the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) of which more than 421 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) have benefited from deep freezers, educational support, medical support, fufu pounding machines, sewing machines and other assorted machines.

He said the Assembly was able to engage 152 people under NABCO and 176 under the Youth Employment Policy.

The MCE indicated that the Municipality would build a cocoa processing factory under the One-District One Factory (1D1F) policy in 2020.

Touching on health, he said the Assembly had constructed one polyclinic at Wassa Dunkwa and CHIP Compounds with accommodation at Prestea Nkwanta and Woman-no Good, with a brand new pick-up procured for the Municipal Health Directorate.

Mr Agyiri said the Assembly has also supported community initiated projects by giving out about 2,854 bags of cements,111 packets of roofing sheets and 206 packs of street lights.

On roads, the MCE said work was ongoing on the Asankraqwa to Humjibre road, Asankragwa to Fordjorkrom and that a number of roads in some Communities in the Municipality have been reshaped.

He said the Assembly was constructing storm drains in the Asankragwa Township.

The occasion was also used to launch the upcoming referendum to educate the people on the need to vote massively in the December 17 polls.
