SHAMA: DCE interacts with Traditional Council on govt policies

Nananom of the Shama Traditional Council have been briefed on various government policies and programmes and urged to assist in actualizing those laudable interventions foreconomic empowerment.

The Shama District Chief Executive, Joseph Amoah led the delegation on the side of the assembly to update the Council on key government policies such as; “the One District, One Factory”, “Planting for Food and Jobs”, “Modernizing Agriculture in Ghaana (MAG”), as well as, “Planting for Jobs and Investment”.

On the Planting for Jobs and Investment which is an initiative of the Ministries of Local Government and Rural Development, Trade and Industry, as well as, Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; each Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly (MMDA) is to identify at least two (2) cash crops dominant in their jurisdiction so that government would support registered farmers with seedlings, fertilizer, and other inputs including farming technology and market.

 

 

During the meeting, the Traditional Council endorsed a proposal that the Shama District should present rice and oil palm as the two leading crops while cassava and sugarcane should also be considered as the third and fourth crops respectively.

The DCE, Mr Amoah also took advantage to appeal to Nananom to put their house in order by way of effectively dealing with the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the District.

He indicated that the Assembly was disturbed at those disputes since they were a hindrance to development. He indicated that some action needed to be taken at dealing with the numerous disputes.
