This is to help address the Assembly's recurrent inability to meet its revenue target in spite of the availability of various potential sources of revenue.
The Assembly had only mobilized GHs 510,504.73 representing 52.3% of the annual budgeted figure of GHs 975,610.00 as at 30th June, 2017.
Speaking at the assembly’s second ordinary meeting, Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Dennis Edward Aboagye said that, although giant steps have been taken to improve revenue mobilization over the years, there was still room for improvement.
He noted that the assembly has identified some major factors hindering effective revenue mobilization and will soon implement these appropriate mechanisms to help improve the situation.
He noted that some of the factors identified include;
• Poor controls to check leakages
• Revenue collectors lacking any urgency in meeting their targets
• Collusion by some Assembly staff with revenue collectors to divert funds
• Un-accessed properties which are due for re- evaluation
• In- adequate sensitization of the community on the need to pay tolls and taxes
• Inability of the area councils to collect ceded revenue
He also stated some measures such as appropriate technology, system and structures, strict compliance enforce the public financial management, ACT 921 and harsh sanctions against staff member who may be found in any financial malfeasance will soon be implemented accordingly to improve the situation.
