First Lady donates to deaf, blind schools

The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo- Addo on Wednesday brought smiles to the faces of the children at Mampong School for the Deaf and Akropong School for the Blind as she presented assorted items worth millions of Ghana Cedis to the schools.

Item presented include bags of sugar, rice, cocoa powder, dining tables, chairs, mattress, sanitary pads and liners. Fumigation chemicals were also presented by the first lady to help undertake fumigation exercise during vacation period.

Speaking at a colourful ceremony, Mrs Akufo- Addo encouraged the pupils’ to work hard and not to give up on their aspiration irrespective of their current challenges.

She first lady who bemoaned the present infrastructural challenges of the school however, assured that they will be relayed to the appropriate authorities for swift redress. Mrs Akufo Addo added that her office shall supervise and play a complementary role to government’s efforts to resolve their challenges.  

Receiving the items on behalf of the School for the Deaf, Assistant Headmistress Mr. Goodluck Akufo Kpeli expressed much gratitude to the First Lady’s for her kind benevolence and appealed to the first to assume the role as the school’s new Patron.

He also appealed to the First Lady to assist the school with an ICT center, a standby generator and help completes their dormitory block

Also on her part, the headmistress of Akropong School for the Blind, Mrs. Mahela Narh thanked the First lady for the donation and further conferred on the First lady the role of a Patroness for the school.

She also appealed to the First Lady to help upgrade their medical center.
