President Akufo Addo confident of modernizing agriculture to create jobs

To this end he said some measure have been taken in this regard including employing extension officers to support and provide hands-on support to farmers at all stages of the agriculture process.
He noted that the “one village, one dam” policy aimed at increased irrigation farming has also taken of in the three regions in the north with the rehabilitation of existing ones that are in dire state of disrepair.
Additionally, the “Planting for food and Job” programme has also started in earnest with the registration of 185,000 farmers out of the targeted 200, 000.
And with government absorbing 50 percent of the cost of fertilizer, it has distributed 80,037tones of fertilizer to the farmers and supplied 35,746metric tones of seedlings to the farmers as well.
He was also delighted that many of the suggestions for the one district and one factory initiative are agriculture based which will boost production.
With the invasion of the fall army worm that that has affected 112,802 hectors of farmlands and destroying 14,420 hectors, the President stated that government has so far mobilised support for the farmers with the distribution of 72,774 litres of insecticide to help control the worms and added that more of the insecticides will be supplied.
