The committee's primary responsibilities include developing plans to prevent and mitigate disasters within the municipality, collaborate closely with the Ashanti Regional Disaster Management Committee, and also implement directives from the Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

During the inauguration, Mr. Frank Darko from the Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Risk Management (DRRCRM) unit highlighted several pressing disaster challenges facing Obuasi.

In her address, The MCE urged the committee members to be proactive and diligent in their roles, emphasizing the importance of their work in saving lives and protecting property.

She stated, “For your work, every minute counts, and the whole municipality will be counting on your expertise.”

Mr. Umar Mohammed Rabu, the Ashanti Regional Deputy Director of Operations (NADMO) (Zone 1), encouraged the committee to adhere strictly to the municipal disaster management plan. He also advised that the committee should hold meetings quarterly, convene emergency sessions as needed.
