The objective of the exercise is to get defaulters to meet their obligations to the assembly and to raise the needed revenue for the development of the municipality.
“We cannot sit idle and expect central government to give us resources when we have the potential to generate sufficient funds internally to accelerate the development of our municipality” he said.
The exercise involves the closure of businesses operating without permit, or whose permit has not been renewed for the year and those that have not made good their operating fees for the same period.
According to the MCE, response has been encouraging and hopes the amount of money to be realized at the end of the period will become a benchmark for the revenue mobilization task force.
He said defaulting operators will continue to have their structures or premises locked whiles recalcitrant ones will be made to face the law.
The MCE said the exercise is not meant to victimize anybody or stifle any business and urged the people to cultivate the habit of voluntarily fulfilling their financial obligations to the assembly for the development of the municipality adding that revenue generated will be properly applied for the benefit of all.
