Dormaa MCE responds to media unfriendly posture

Mr. Drissah Quattara, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) on Sunday debunked assertions and perception that he was unfriendly to the media.

He said the sensitivity of his position had made him to tread cautiously in approaching issues in the interest of the Municipality and Ghana in general.

The MCE however, said his doors were always opened to the media through his able assistants who were competent enough to answer their queries or respond to their concerns.

Mr. Quattara gave the response when he interacted with the local media at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Brong-Ahafo Region to update them about some development projects being undertaken in the Municipality.

The MCE explained sometimes his busy schedule had somehow contributed to his inability to answer frequent queries from the media, adding even "in the thick of affairs I have tried as much as I could to offer myself up for media interviews".

He commended media practitioners for discharging their respective duties, saying that was assisting in the socio-economic progress of the area and asked them for more support for the Assembly to ensure the successful implementation of the government’s policies and programmes in the Municipality.

Mr. Quattara reiterated his resolve to fight the menace of galamsey (illegal mining) as well as illegal lumbering and timber business in the area.

He noted that those who would be caught felling trees without proper documents and certification would be made to face the full rigours of the law.

Mr. Quattara stated the precarious financial situation of the Assembly was thwarting efforts to execute some pressing development projects in the Municipality.

But that notwithstanding the Assembly would endeavour to undertake some development projects, including the construction of schools and rehabilitation of some places of convenience, he assured.

Some of the media personnel suggested the need for the Assembly to find innovative and creative ways to generate financial resources for the Assembly and also build cordial relationship with the media to enhance the governance process.
