The massive project, which is expected to cost a colossal amount of about 90 million Ghana Cedis, falls under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme which aims at assisting regional and national institutions to provide municipal assemblies with the support needed for effective urban management and service delivery.

The new market is expected to complement the government’s efforts in providing a serene environment to promote buying and selling.

Revealing this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Ike Lord Ennu, lauded the project, and added that the facility, when completed will help Mankessim restore its name as one of Ghana’s market hubs.

He continued that the Assembly has identified a site to facilitate the construction of the magnificent edifice whereas all necessary documentations have also been concluded.

Touching on other related stories, the MCE also confirmed the construction of 72 lockable stores by the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) at the “Asabee” market in Mankessim to help improve the plight of traders in the area.

The MCE added that the Fixed Asset Unit of the Assembly was making frantic efforts to ensure an equitable distribution of the stores to market women who are in need of them.

Mr. Lord Ennu charged the people of Mankessim and its surrounding communities to rally behind the NPP-government to enable it deliver on its core mandate.
