ATWIMA M: GIADEC commissions a 19-member community-based committee

Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation (GIADEC), has commissioned a 19- member Community-based committee for the smooth operations of their activities on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Kyeraaso.

The committee is made up of opinion leaders, traditional authorities, assembly members, and the clergy to be the link between the mining communities and the organization.

Mr. William Darko, the District Chief Executive for the Atwima Mponua District in his welcome address was full of praise for the government with the speed with which they are putting together stakeholders for the smooth take-off of the multi-billion dollar investment.

He admonished the gathering to keep their fingers crossed as the commencement of this project will change the cause of the indigenes of the mining catchment areas.

He said contractors are going to start a first-class road to link Nyinahin through to Sreso Tinpom to Antwi Agyei Nkwanta. He mentioned that “Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah, a cabinet Minister is always in the detail to make sure Atwima Mponua gets its fair pound of the Bauxite kitty”, he posited. The government has given Atwima Mponua about 116km of the road network which is ongoing, he added.



Mr. Michael Ansah, the CEO of GIADEC stated that his outfit is seeking to do a near-perfect job so that, Nyinahin and Mpasaaso benefit immensely from the mining. He was of the view that, the mistakes of our forebears will not be replicated in this Bauxite business as Awaso, which has mined Bauxite for 78 years has nothing to show but abject poverty and deplorable community. “The 19 member committee is going to create a 2-way communication for the smooth operations of the deal, that is development driven”, the business magnate maintained.
Hon. Osei Agyei was awe-struck as a Bauxite community like Kyeraaso, Wansamire, Sreso Tinpom are left out of development.

He emphasized that the natural resource will change the face of these communities and he believes the leadership of His Excellency Nana Akufo has the mental fortitude to achieve this laurel through the inclusive and bottom-up approach the Government has adopted.

Nana Ampene Boateng Twum II, the overlord of Nyinahin asked the indigenes not to be swayed by the low key of the fruition of the project. He noted Government is looking for a strategic investor with the financial withal to build smelters and factories will create the needed employment for the teeming youth in the District. “I understand your leerie nature because of the past experience but I can assure you, this is a different ball game and the game-changer”, he added.



The traditional ruler bemoaned the mere fact that the proceeds of the Bauxite deposits are used in the construction of roads in other parts of the country like Tamale, Accra, and Kumasi but his subjects are plying the most deplorable road network in the country. He charged the GIADEC executives to up their game to lobby for a smooth first-class road from Nyinahin to Antwiagyei Nkwanta and Kyekyewere and its environs.

Nana Kusi Amankwaa Marfo II, the Nkawie Panin Chief echoed the sentiments raised by his brother Nana Twum of Nyinahin. He asked the corporation to be tactical in their dealings and show exceptional leadership skills that will bring equity for the benefit of their communities.

His Lordship, George Nibi charged the 19 member committee to be of good character as he took them through the oath of office and the oath of secrecy.
