WA E: Assembly connects Gbantala community to the national electricity grid

The Wa East Assembly has commissioned the Gbantala community electricity project in fulfillment of the people's long-awaited dream of also enjoying the national grid.

Gbantala is one of the few very remote communities in the Wa East District that has been longing to be hooked to the national grid for several years now.

Commissioning the project, Mr Moses Jotie, the Wa East District Chief Executive noted that the contract was awarded by the previous government but could not be executed due to the non-payment of the contractor.

He noted that realizing how badly the people needed the electricity, the present government found the money for the contractor to execute the project.

"As we hand over the project to you today for use, I want to caution that just as we are happy to enjoy the benefits, we should also be wary of the danger involved and adopt best practices to protect lives and property", he advised.

Mr Jotie said the light apart from brightening their rooms for them also presented them with the opportunity to use it to do business and better their lots.

He promised that the Assembly would soon provide street lights to enhance security in the community.

The DCE told Ghanadistricts.com that, the community still lacked a number of developmental interventions including a communication network to make life comfortable for them, and appealed to them to vote to retain the government in power for it to address the remaining developmental needs of the community.

According to him, Wa East received their share of development only when NPP was in power, citing the construction of the Wa-Bulenga road and Kulun and Ambalaara bridges among others.

Mr Iddrisu Dumah, a member of the community thanked the DCE for subsidizing a total of 119 meters for them, adding that the singular gesture made it possible for every household to own a meter.
