The event forms part of the Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism project, funded by the European Union.

Participating youth groups included the Karaga Youth Centre, Attaya Youth for Development, Young Peace Ambassadors, Concerned Youth, Beimony Cultural Youth, Cama/Camfed Ladies and Youth Parliament.

Mr. Osman Mahama, Karaga District Director, NCCE, reminded the youth about the threat posed by extremists to the security of the country.

Chief Superintendent Peter Adjei, the District Police Commander, emphasised the importance of peace, saying it was the foundation of every community.

“If a community has all the social amenities but fails to be peaceful, no one can enjoy the amenities,” he said.

He urged the youth to embrace peace as the country approached this year’s elections and avoid political violence, which was one of the main drivers of violent extremism.

Reverend Jeln Joseph Kofi, a resource person, urged the youth to be mindful of their utterances since words could sometimes be very dangerous.

He urged them not to engage in misinformation and disinformation because they led to violence.

Mr. Samuel Akuamoah, Deputy Chairperson, NCCE, encouraged the youth to come out and vote on the election day as high voter turnout gave credibility to the polls.
