He said no one called him to join any group to lend their support to the former Vice President; “I went there myself to declare my support only to meet other members of Parliament in the former Vice President's office with the same intention to pledge their support for him. Nobody is campaigning; we pledged our support to Dr. Bawumia the same way others have pledged their support for other flagbearer hopefuls", he stated.

The NPP has slated January 31, 2026 to elect its flagbearer going into the 2028 general elections and since the announcement, there has been a number of activities with people and groups aligning to flagbearer hopefuls they think has what it takes to lead them.

But the Oda MP in an interview asserts that all the individuals who are gearing up to lead the party are presidential materials and rightly so; but the best bet among them who can appeal to the generality of the public to win the presidency is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Oda MP noted that looking at the trajectory in the New Patriotic Party, consistency is very crucial in winning the presidential election in Ghana and Dr Bawumia has been consistent and well marketed over the years, adding that it was just unfortunate that few things didn’t go well for him in the last election when he was the vice president; but now he can have full grip on things to spur the party to electoral victory come 2028.

So far about sixty members of parliament have openly declared their support for Dr Bawumia who led the party to the 2024 general elections.
