Sefwi Bia SHTS wins Western North Sixth Renewable Energy Challenge Competition

Sefwi Bia Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in the Bia West District have won the Sixth edition of the Western North Regional Renewable Energy Challenge Competition for SHSs.

They would represent the region at the zonal level.

They won the competition with a project work on designing and building of a multi- purpose solar powered tiller to perform labour intensive farm operations on the field and tree crop production.

They scored 82.3 points to win the competition, while Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School placed second with 72.7 points, and St Joseph SHS placed third with 69 points.

Queens SHS had 68 points to place fourth, the host school, STEM SHS came fifth with 66.7 points, Asawinso SHS had 63.3 to place sixth, and Juaboso SHS placed seventh.

The programme was organised by the Energy Commission in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service under the theme: “Sustainable for a Healthy Future.”

Mr. Julius Nkansah-Nyanko, the General Manager, Renewable Energy Commission, in his opening remarks said the competition stood as a beacon of hope, helping to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

“It offers students a valuable opportunity to transform theoretical knowledge into practical and impactful solutions that benefit mainly their communities and the nation as a whole,” he said.

Mr. Nkansah-Nyanko stated that the challenge was established as one of the flagship programmes of the Energy Commission and reflected their commitment of nurturing creativity, innovation, and sustainability among the youths.

He explained that the competition would be grouped into Southern and Northern Zone and that three schools would be selected from each zone to compete for the grande finale in Accra.

 

Mr. Joseph Agyabeng, the Principal for Awaso STEM SHS, on behalf of the Western North Regional Director of Education, expressed the region’s gratitude to the organisers, sponsors, teachers and students for the good job done.

He said the participating schools had showcased projects that demonstrated their understanding of complex problems and their solutions.

He congratulated the winners and encouraged them to work harder as they prepared to represent the region at the zonal level.
