Following a series of training sessions, SAC has developed a comprehensive strategy aimed at engaging citizens and monitoring the use of public resources.

The initiative is designed to empower residents with the knowledge and tools needed to hold public authorities accountable and ensure responsible governance.

At a workshop in Somanya, Mr. Jacob Tetteh Ahuno, Programmes and Research Officer at GII, outlined one of the club’s key activities community sensitization campaigns.

He stated that SAC was preparing to launch a series of outreach initiatives that target diverse community groups to foster civic awareness.

These educational programmes will take place in churches, mosques, schools, and markets, providing critical information on transparency, good governance, and responsible public resource management.

In addition to in-person sessions, SAC is planning to leverage local radio stations to discuss pressing issues such as corruption, public resource management, and citizen engagement in governance.

These broadcasts will serve as platforms for educating the public and encouraging proactive involvement in accountability efforts.

To strengthen its impact, SAC will collaborate with the Municipal Assembly’s Audit Committee to monitor the implementation of the Auditor-General’s recommendations.

This partnership seeks to address irregularities in public spending and ensure financial accountability in governance structures.

Mr. Ahuno said the initiatives aligned with GII’s broader mission of empowering citizens in governance processes, fostering greater transparency, and improving efficiency in public service delivery.

The Social Auditing Clubs, introduced by GII, are part of a nationwide effort to enhance local accountability.

These community-driven organizations are trained to monitor public projects, report malpractices, and engage local authorities to ensure proper resource utilization.

Also, SAC’s work in Yilo Krobo supports the goals of the Strengthening Accountability, Rule of Law, and Institutional Strengthening (SARIS) project.

SARIS, implemented by GII in partnership with the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) and the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, seeks to strengthen civil society’s capacity to demand accountability and reinforce the role of local communities in governance.

Through these proactive measures, SAC is positioning itself as a driving force for integrity and civic empowerment, helping to bridge the gap between citizens and governance structures and promoting a culture of accountability in Yilo Krobo.
