He noted that the Minister of Finance has made adequate financial provision forthe roads infrastructure and that funding will not be a problem.
“The minister of finance said funding will not be an excuse and every contractor who works for the Big Push, when he raises a certificate for payment within two works, will receive his money”, he assured.
The President made this known during his thank you tour to Bono to thank the chiefs and the people in the region for their unwavering support and massive endorsement for him during the 2024 general elections.
He said across the Bono Region several important roads projects initiated during his previous tenure in office were left incomplete, communities isolated and development delayed after NDC left office in 2017.
“Unfortunately, the change of government in 2017 caused most of these projects to be installed and currently many of these stand incomplete and abandoned.
Clearly this could not have been part of 10,000km of roads that were touted by the last administration”, he emphasized.
Technical assessment, the President said, has already been undertaken by the Minister for Roads and Highways, and phase works will soon commence. “The roads will not only be completed, these roads will ensure that they are completed with quality, durability and timely date delivery”, he assured.
Roads such as Sunyani inner and outer ring roads, the Alaska-Catholic University road, Berekum–Sampa road, Sampa-Wenchi road, Odumase–Badu road, Kyeremasu-Gambia No. I ‘II road, Sunyani–Techimanroad, and the Kumasi–Sunyani road has all been captured for massivere development.
The new government has been clear in his vision to revive the economy and restore faith in governance and deliver real development that reaches every household and every community.
Touching on the cashew industry, H.E the President said the Government will soon establish Cashew Development Board to provide a structural framework to develop and grow the Cashew industry.
It will also oversee pricing regulation, market access, processing and research in order to give farmers the bride that they deserve.
In addition, the government is partnering with the private sector to build a cashew processing factory in Bono. “By processing the cashew locally, jobs can be created and add value and keep more of the wealth within the Region”, he noted.
He added that policy was part of a broader agenda to industrialize agriculture and strengthen local economies.
The Bono Region in Ghana is the Cashew land heart, just not a crop, but also a livelihood for many of the people. For many families, the President said cashew sput food on the table sends children to school and fuels the rural economy.
On Sport, H.E President John Mahama said the Bono Region together with 6 new regions that currently do not have fit-for purpose stadiums were all captured to receive fit-for purpose stadiums for the development of sport.
On issues of Education and health, President Mahama said his government will establish a fully-fledged medical school in the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UNER) to start training medical doctors.
The new medical school, he added will be anchored on the Sunyani teaching hospital and that the Council of State have approved the Board in collaboration, all legal backing regularized and UENR is underway to begin with the training of health professionals to serve the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo and beyond.
The Sunyani regional hospital will also see an upgrade in its infrastructure and facilities in order to make it worthy of designation as a teaching hospital.
He reminded the public that the UNER was a proud legacy of the NDC administration, established under the leadership of H.E. Prof. J.E.A. Mills of recent memories but suffered stagnation due to inadequate investment.
He assured that the new NDC government under his administration was taking steps to uncap the GETfund to release more funds to undertake critical infrastructure in all education institutions, including the construction of all abandoned SHS in the Region.“
These were NDC legacy projects, innovative and community schools were left in the communities. Their completion will restore access to quality education and expand learning opportunities to the youth”, he reiterated.
President John Mahama also assured the muslim community GET fund will resume work in eight (8) facilities at AlFaruk Islamic College Education in Wenchi previously started by NDC but abandoned to enhance the training of Arabic and Islamic teachers for all levels of education system.
Market infrastructure was not left out by the President's address. As part of the government market enhancement strategy spearheaded by H.E. Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, said five (5) modern market centres will be constructed in key districts of Bono Region.
The president was happy to announce that Sunyani was one of them.
These markets will be equipped with modern sanitation, IT, security, day care centres and digital infrastructure to support mothers who will be trading there.
In line with the 24hour economy, the President said the Government will be introducing Regional industrialization projects and programmes focused on life manufacturing and agro-processing which seeks to create jobs, improve productivity, and stimulate local business growth.
On governance, the President said his government commitment to inclusive governance was unwavering.
He chiefs were not just passive custodians tradition, rather partners in peace building, community leadership and Regional development.
His Government, he noted, will strengthen the house of chiefs, enhance function of the traditional council and deepen their roles in local governance to promote collaboration between them and government.
“It is our intention in the constitutional review to enhance the authority of the chiefs in the areas of environmental protection and sanitation. I assured the Bono Regional house of chiefs that your insight, your leadership and voice will be central to our governance model”, he said.
He also recognized the environmental challenge facing Bono deforestation, water scarcity and land degradation under the auspices of the Regional coordinating council (RCC) launched a new Green Gold Agenda (NGGA), focused on afforestation, water resource and climate resilience agriculture. “Working with local communities will restore the degraded forest, clean up the water bodies, invest in small water systems to ensure access to serve drinking water to our people”, he advised.
The President announced that Schools were going to be involved in the tree planting initiative and all school children in Bono were going to be involved in the project.
The schools will compete in tree growing competitions and the schools that will emerge the best receive a very handsome prize. “It is our
intention that every school child in Bono Region must plant and mature a tree to grow”, he said.
President Mahama expressed profound gratitude to the chiefs, religious leaders, civil society organization, youth and women groups, and the security services for their collective role in safeguarding the peace and integrity of the electoral process.
“The victory we achieved in 2024was not simply for political parties. It was a victory for Ghanaians people, teachers, nurses, drivers, farmers, students, market women, antisense and entrepreneurs.
It was a vote for truth, competence and more importantly for accountable leadership”, he said.
