North East can produce rice and tomatoes to feed Ghana -Minister-designate

He, therefore, urged interested investors to pay attention to the Region since it was ready to collaborate with strategic investors to actualize its vision to create jobs for the teeming youth.
The nominee made this known when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament in Accra on Monday for vetting.
The Minister-designate said the Region had large tracts of arable lands and with the necessary funding; it could produce sufficient rice to feed the entire nation.
For instance, in East Mamprusi district, the nominee said there were suitable lands for tomato cultivation and believed that with the necessary funding, he could grow and set up a tomato factory to feed the country.
"I will put to use the water-melon factory in Walewale which was commissioned by the previous government.
"There are a number of watermelon farmers in the North East Region and it will boost the local economy," Mr. Tia assured.
Asked on measures to curb the surging robberies in the Region, the Minister-designate indicated that he would collaborate with the security agencies to combat armed robbery and other security threats.
The nominee also highlighted some of the tourist sites in the Region and pledged to whip up public sensitization to attract tourists to the area.
