He made the call while addressing hundreds gathered at the Sunyani Jubilee Park for the Bono Regional observance of the maiden National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, held on the theme: “Reflect, Reset and Renew for National Prosperity.”

The National Day of Prayer, instituted by President John Dramani Mahama, is to be observed annually on July 1 as a time for spiritual reflection, national gratitude, and a renewed sense of unity.

Mr. Akwaboah stressed that a renewed commitment to good governance, youth development, education, agriculture, innovation, and environmental stewardship was critical to transforming the nation.

“The time to act is now, and the foundation of our actions must be laid in prayer and national unity,” he said.

Quoting 2 Chronicles 7:14, the Regional Minister urged Ghanaians to humble themselves, live godly lives, and become agents of positive change spiritually strong, morally upright, and committed to national progress.

He noted that despite challenges such as economic pressure, global uncertainty, youth unemployment, and social tensions, Ghana had much to be thankful for due to divine grace and guidance.Mr. Akwaboah encouraged citizens to “embrace a spirit of prayer and unity in pursuit of renewed leadership and stronger national institutions,” and seek divine direction for lasting peace and sustainable development.

He prayed for God to “build our land, restore our environment, strengthen our economy, renew our hearts, and bind us together as one people with a shared identity and common destiny.”

“Through reflection, we can confront past missteps and summon the courage to make amends—to reset and break free from division, corruption, apathy, and indiscipline that hinder progress,” he added.

In a sermon, Right Reverend Dr. Festus Yeboah Asuamah, Anglican Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese and Chairman of the Sunyani Christian Council, urged Ghanaians to turn from wickedness and strive to live lives pleasing to God.

Apostle Adu Kyeremeh, Head Pastor of Temple of Praise Church, who presided over the service, called for strengthened unity and godly leadership, stressing that Ghana's abundant natural resources could only be harnessed through moral and visionary governance.

Prayers were offered for the nation, President John Dramani Mahama, and for peace, prosperity, and national unity.
