He described the gesture as “a historic milestone and a true demonstration of leadership that values local governance.”

Mr Fiagbenu said the allowance, which appeared in page 73, section 395 of the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, formed part of the Mahama administration’s Resetting Agenda to strengthen decentralisation and improve the welfare of local representatives.

He confirmed that on Friday, October 3, an amount of GHs 2,340, representing two months’ special allowance, was credited to his bank account.

“Even though there was some delay, I sincerely appreciate this payment, and I urged the government to maintain consistency in subsequent releases. President Mahama has shown that his word to the grassroots truly matters,” he said.

Mr Fiagbenu noted that the allowance, though not earmarked for development projects, would be used to support community initiatives in his electoral area.

He revealed plans to construct a public urinal at Adidome lorry park with additional materials to be provided by benevolent individuals within the community.

He added that regular payment of the allowance could help undertake other minor but impactful projects, such as installation of streetlights at the Adidome Central Market, fueling the district fire tender for cleanup exercises, providing water for communal labour, and supporting Adidome Unity Stars; the local football team with jerseys and other needs.

Mr. Fiagbenu called on corporate Ghana to support local development projects through partnerships with district assemblies.
