Jaman South MCE charges women to take on leadership positions

Jaman South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Siata Watara, has admonished women not to shy away from taking on leadership positions if the opportunity avails to them.

According to her, women must be seen actively pursuing leadership roles and participating in key decision making processes especially at the local level.

The MCE, who was speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com following the launch of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana, NALAG’s, strategic document on gender, advocacy and communication in Accra, said women played a crucial role in the community hence their involvement in key decisions could not be underestimated.

She said women form a greater percentage of Ghana’s population, adding that it was imperative that they are given the fore and encouraged to participate keenly in issues of development and human empowerment.

She seized the opportunity to applaud NALAG for its bold commitment and resolution to help women gain control over their lives, and enable them participate fully in social, economic, and political life.

The MCE was confident that the documents which are rooted in research, shaped by stakeholder consultation and designed to enhance accountability, inclusivity and resilience in local governance would go a long way to assist women strive in their political careers.

He added that the documents are expected to reposition the association and ensure effectiveness and efficiency in local governance and decentralization.
