He said the decongestion exercise in key streets was to support economic activity, noting that; illegal street trading and roadside obstructions contributed significantly to traffic bottlenecks in the city.

“Road congestion slows down business, reduces profits, limits expansion, and ultimately increases unemployment, while poor sanitation poses health risks that can disrupt daily activities,” he said.

Speaking to the Mayor pointed out that, improved sanitation and orderly business operations were essential for maintaining a healthy and productive urban environment.

He said the normalization of business operations, coupled with ongoing traffic management and sanitation efforts would stimulate economic activity in the coming months.

Transport operators in the city have reported smoother flows on major routes, attributing the improvement to both increased economic and business activities, which are gradually returning to normal following the Christmas holidays.

Shops are opened, markets are buzzing with activities, and public offices, including banks, have resumed their regular schedules.

Traders at Kejetia and Adum markets reported a steady increase in customer traffic since the start of the week, reflecting the resumption of commercial routines after the festive break.

Many businesses also noted that the demand for goods and services was steadily climbing, which was expected to positively impact revenue generation during the first quarter of the year.

Commuter traffic has also begun to improve, although congestion remains a persistent challenge along major roads and commercial corridors in the city.

Residents and business owners alike remain hopeful that continued enforcement of traffic and sanitation policies would further enhance the city’s commercial environment and overall quality of life.

The Security situation in the metropolis has also improved because security personnel are seen in the markets and on major roads ensuring the safety of the public.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr. Arthur Osei Akoto, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, speaking to the GNA, urged the public to continue to stay vigilant even after the festive activities for them not to be swayed by criminals.

He urged residents to cooperate with the police as they work to protect life and property.
