Delegates from Tuscaloosa visits Sunyani

A 13-member delegation from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, U.S.A. is visiting Sunyani as part of measures of strengthening the sister-city relationship bond between the two cities.

The delegation which includes the Executive Director of Sister Cities’ Commission Lisa Keyes and led by Tuscaloosa City Councilman Rev. Mathew Wilson arrived in Sunyani on Thursday, June 1st and was received by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Ansu Kumi and other members of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly.

As part of the visit, the delegation led by the MCE has paid a courtesy call on the Sunyani Traditional Council where they were received by Nana Akosua Duaa Asor Sika Brayie II, Omanhemaa of Sunyani traditional council who expressed the hope that the relationship would foster friendship between the two countries, mutual respect and understanding, opening new avenues of cooperation that would be beneficial to both cities.

The traditional council requested that the Boahen Korkor basic school in Sunyani be adopted as part of the agreement, to principle the memory of Nana Boahen Korkor, the founder of Sunyani.

Addressing the Traditional Council,Mr. Ansu Kumi described the relationship which started in 2011 as a marriage union and said both cities have the Elephant as their emblem and that both are resolved to develop international cooperation programs to promote cultural, artistic, social and economic relations.

On his part, Rev. Mathew Wilson added that both cities intend to exchange experiences in technical and administrative fields, sanitation and education for sustainable development.

The delegation expressed their joy for the warm welcome and hope for a lasting relationship that would bring mutual benefits to both cities.
