Ga East Assembly Supports Traditional Authorities with Homowo Items

The Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA) has presented assorted food items, beverages, cash and other essential items to traditional authorities across the municipality in support of this year's Homowo Festival celebrations.

The donation included bags of maize, cooking oil, bottled water, soft drinks, mineral drinks, cash and other items intended to support chiefs and their communities during the annual festivities.

The gesture forms part of the Assembly's annual efforts to strengthen its partnership with traditional authorities while recognising their important role in preserving Ga cultural heritage, promoting peace and fostering unity within their respective communities.

Homowo is one of the most significant festivals on the Ga traditional calendar and symbolises the people's victory over hunger, thanksgiving, unity and resilience. The festival also provides an opportunity for families and communities to come together to celebrate their shared heritage and strengthen social bonds.

The Assembly noted that its support for the celebrations demonstrates its commitment to preserving the cultural identity of the municipality while deepening collaboration with traditional institutions.

Receiving the items on behalf of the traditional authorities, the Chief of Papao, Nii Annan Ofori, expressed appreciation to the Assembly for the timely gesture, describing the donation as a meaningful contribution towards a successful Homowo celebration.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the traditional authorities to working closely with the Assembly to promote peaceful coexistence, preserve cultural values and support the overall development of the municipality.

The Ga East Municipal Assembly reiterated its commitment to collaborating with traditional leaders on initiatives that promote social cohesion, preserve the cultural heritage of the Ga people and advance sustainable development across the municipality.
