In a press release issued by the Public Relations Unit, GWL said the incident had necessitated an immediate shutdown of operations at the facility to allow for comprehensive repair works.
“The Management of the Ghana Water Limited (GWL) wishes to inform the public, particularly residents and institutions within the North-Eastern part of Accra, of an interruption in water supply as a result of a fire outbreak at the Dodowa Booster Station.
“Our team of engineers are currently on site working tirelessly and around the clock to restore the system to its full functionality,” the statement said.
The Dodowa Booster Station serves several communities, and the disruption is expected to affect East Legon, Agbogba, Haatso, Atomic, Frafraha, Ashaley Botwe, Adjiringanor, Ashongman, Dome, Adenta, Madina, Oyarifa, and surrounding areas, with residents likely to experience low pressure or no flow.
“Management of Ghana Water Limited regrets the inconvenience this unforeseen development may cause and appeals to customers to bear with the situation,” the statement noted.
“We wish to assure the public that every effort is being made to rectify the fault in the shortest time possible and to restore regular water supply,” it stated.
GWL said alternative arrangements were being made to ensure continuous water supply to essential service providers, including schools and hospitals.
“Institutions that may deplete their storage are advised to promptly contact their respective Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs), Assembly Members, Unit Committee Members, or reach out to the Ghana Water Limited Call Centres on 0207385089, 0207385090, or 0302218240 for assistance.”
“We are grateful for the patience and understanding of our valued customers and stakeholders during this period,” the statement said.
