Prestea youth urged to embrace community mining concept

The Western Regional Minister Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah has urged the youth of Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality to come together to form groups to embark on Community mining.

He said this during a town hall meeting held at Aboso during the Regional Ministers tour of the municipality.

The minister said that the government will very soon launch the Community mining in other to do away with illegal mining.

He added that the youth after forming teams can then go to the Municipal Assembly to register so that their concession can be allocated to them. He pleaded with chiefs to support the course by giving out parcels of land to committed youth who will register with the Assembly.



He added that the will be negotiating within the mining companies to give out part of their unused concessions to support this wealthy course.

Again, the Regional Minister urged the Chiefs in the Municipality to join in the One District One Factory. He said they could bring a two paper proposal which officials will help them to develop it into proper business plan so that they could use it to take loans and get other support from the assembly to kick start their factory.



He did not leave out the Planting for Food and Export, Planting for export and rural development and rearing for food and jobs. He appealed to them to join in production of coconut, oil palm and others to help with Planting for Food and Export.

He said they should go to the Municipal Assembly to request for seedlings for cultivation once their lands are ready for cultivation.



Several requests were laid before the Minister. Among these requests were: the need to increase cocoa prices, the need to work on the Huni-valley to Bogoso road, the need Construct a new school at Gyimakrom and Gyimakrom to Bogoso road.

The people of Aboso also pleaded with the Minister to lobby for investors to invest in the Aboso glass factory. Taxi drivers also talked about the fact that those with Prestea Huni-valley embossment were not allowed to operate into Tarkwa. Poor nature of road from Piaso to Bogoso and poor telecommunication network at Piaso.
