This, he said, should be complemented by the formation of more community neighbourhood watch committees.

Addressing an ordinary meeting of the district assembly at Kodie, he said it was important for the people to accept to share in the responsibility of ensuring security.

The DCE said many people were moving to settle in the area because of its proximity to Kumasi and that the fast-paced development was, however, not without its security challenges.

"It is something that must not be underestimated and that is why the assembly is in touch with the police administration to establish a strong police presence," he said.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku said police stations needed to be opened at places like Atimatim-Trabuom, Afrancho and Ankaase-Ejuratia.

He said his other concern had to do with the poor environmental sanitation in some of the communities and vowed to tackle the unhealthy situation to prevent diseases.

In line with this, the assembly was planning to take over the management of public toilets to ensure that they were kept clean and properly maintained.

He reminded the assembly members to show personal interest in revenue collection in the electoral areas they were representing and to make sure that all fees and rates due the assembly were collected.
