AKYEMANSA: Assembly to invest in Oil Palm plantation

The Akyemansa District in the Eastern region has acquired a 70-acre plot of land for oil palm plantation to create employment for the youth in the area.

The assembly in addition, is also making frantic efforts to enhance agricultural production, increase production of food and cash crops and alleviate poverty in rural communities.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Area, Mr Paul Asamoah who disclosed this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, further stated that, the project is aimed at to generating additional revenue to meet its development needs.

He said the move is in line with government’s “Planting for Food and Investment” programme, a supplementary of its flagship “Planting for Food and Jobs Policy” geared at creating jobs for the youth and also increasing assemblies Internally Generated Funds (IGF).

The programme is to ensure that every Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) undertakes the agricultural project to cultivate an average of ten acres of the crops within the next four years.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, Mr Asamoah underscored the importance of the project and called on the youth in the area to show interest in agriculture by participating fully.
