Akrofuom Assembly receives support to fight COVID-19

As the coronavirus keeps spreading throughout the country, some institutions, organizations and individuals have made donations to the Akrofuom District Assembly.

The donations which have come in the form of Personal Protective Equipments include thermometer guns, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, aprons, soaps, detergents, bleaches, mobs, veronica buckets, and others all to support the efforts of the District Assembly in the fight against the spread of the virus in the district.

The institutions and individuals that have made donations to the Assembly include the Member of Parliament for Akrofuom Constituency, Kwabena Appiah-Pinkrah who donated paper tissues, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, veronica buckets, and basins, soaps and face masks; Anglogold Ashanti Ghana Limited also donated 10 large sizes of veronica buckets; Miss Faustina Araba Boakye a Parliamentary aspirant for the New Patriotic Party in the constituency also donated 60 veronica buckets, alcohol-based; hand sanitizers, paper tissues, and soaps.



The others are Mr. Joshua Nimako, the General Manager for Legal Affairs at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority who is also a native of Akrofuom and some natives of Akrofuom in the diaspora.

Mr. Nimako on his part donated 2 veronica buckets and basins, a thermometer gun, face masks, detergents, and tissue papers.
Also, the natives of Akrofuom in the diaspora who were represented by Miss Lucy Dompreh also donated tissue papers, mob buckets and mobs, blood pressure apparatus, bleach, thermometer guns, aprons, alcohol-based hand sanitizers and soft drinks for the health practitioners.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Assembly, the District Chief Executive, Hon Maurice Jonas Woode thanked and expressed his admiration for the gestures of the donors.



He assured them that the items will be distributed to the communities to enable them to practice good hygiene, of frequently washing hands to prevent the contracting of the virus.

He added that the Assembly has put in many efforts in the fight against the spread of the virus into the district but it is obvious that there will be the need for more support from individuals and corporate organizations.

He revealed that the Assembly has already distributed over 100 pieces of veronica buckets and its stands, hand sanitizers, soaps and other items to the communities in the district stressing that the vast nature of the district calls for more of such donations.



Mr. Woode added that the Assembly has formed a publicity task force comprising of the Information Services Department (ISD), National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Environmental Health Unit (DEHU), National Disaster and Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to move to every community in the district and educate them on the disease as well as how best to protect themselves from contracting the disease.

He again added that there have been several stakeholder meetings with opinion leaders to seek their support in educating the masses. He revealed that one of such meetings led to the Local Council of Churches in Akrofuom agreeing to speak to their congregants and the general public through the use of the information centres and the special market days.



He again appealed to the general public to emulate the gestures of the donors and come to support the district since the virus have virtually come to stay with us.

The donors all expressed satisfaction with how the Assembly has helped to manage the spread of the virus into the district. They said they were motivated to contribute to the good leadership of the District Chief Executive and also applauded the efforts of the health practitioners in the district who are also working assiduously to cater for the citizenry under hard circumstances.
