ATIWA EAST: More farmers to receive oil palm seedlings

The Atiwa East Assembly in the Eastern Region will next year, distribute 40,000 oil palm seedlings for free of charge to farmers in the district to enable the farmers to expand their farms or start new oil palm farms and plantations.

This was announced by the District Chief Executive, Mr. Kwabena Panyn Nkansah at the Accra International Conference Center when the Climate Chance Summit was ongoing.

He said the district assembly was determined to help the farmers embark on massive cultivation of oil palm and 20,000 seedlings immediately the first batch of seedlings have been distributed to 330 farmers in the district.

Mr. Nkansah described the free oil palm seedlings distribution as part of the district’s contribution to the government’s program of Planting for Export and Rural Development.

In light of the rising unemployment rate, he said the success of the program was critical in creating job opportunities and providing a livelihood to many Ghanaians in the district.

Additionally, he said it was aimed at generating employment, both direct and indirect through the establishment of agro-based industries to use the oil palm produce as a feedstock.
