MP for Bibiani cuts sod for construction of astro turf

The Member of Parliament for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency, Mr. Alfred Obeng-Boateng, has cut sod for the construction of an artificial football pitch at Sefwi Bekwai in the Bibiani Municipality of the Western North Region.

The project which comes with a football pitch, an inner perimeter fence, floor lights, washrooms, reverse and spectator stands, goal post and changing room, all worth at GH¢ 3,000,000, is expected to be completed within six months.

Speaking at a short ceremony to hand over the site to the contractor, Mr. Obeng- Boateng highlighted the importance of good governance and encouraged the gathering to renew the mandate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government comes December, 7 in order to develop the country.

He revealed that NPP government inherited only three artificial football pitch across the length and breadth of the country but had managed to constructs over 153 Astro Turf nationwide to enhance sporting activities amidst Covid-19 pandemic and Russia Ukraine war.

Adding that Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality alone has been blessed with three at artificial football pitch suited at Bibiani Roman park, Queen's Girls Senior High at Sefwi Anhwiaso as well as Sefwi Bekwai.

He was confident that these Astro Turf projects will be ready for commission before the end of year to support sports infrastructure development in the area.

The Paramount Chief of Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area, Oyeadieyie Basape Kojo Armah lll, who was the chairperson for the occasion, commended the President Akufo-Addo and the Member of Parliament (MP) their numerous supports in the Municipality within a short period in office.

He noted that the artificial pitch would go a long way to help enhance soccer in the area, so as to move football from a sandy ground to an ultra-modern Astro Turf in the next six months.
