'I’m still engaging MOFFA on improving their operations'- Akwasi Acquah

A Deputy Minister for Health and Member of Parliament for Akim Oda Constituency, Mr. Alexander Akwasi Acquah said he is still engaging the Mortuaries and Funerals Facilities Agency (MOFFA) as efforts to help improve their operations continue.

According to him, the ministry is working around the clock to implement some enhanced policies in order to streamline the operations of MOFFA.

It will be recalled that the MP, during his vetting earlier this year, promised to work and offer the necessary advice to his sector minister to create an enabling environment to promote more private investment in Ghana’s health care as well as restore the mandate of MOFFA.

“Private mortuaries are springing up everywhere and the agency is mandated to train the attendants of these Mortuaries and Funeral homes but they need that kind of recognition so that the nation can get them to act” the MP said this when he met the Appointment Committee of Parliament.

Touching on what has been done following his confirmation, Mr. Akwasi Acquah said he was still working closely with his minister to deliver on the promise of ensuring that mortuaries and funeral homes across the country comply with laid down rules and regulations.

“I am still in engagement with the Mortuaries and Funerals Facilities Agency to know where we can pick the support that they need”, Mr. Akwasi Acquah disclosed.

Meanwhile, the deputy Minister, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Community Hospitals Group, reiterated his call for more private investments in health care, adding that the government alone cannot meet the health needs of the people.

“The synergy between private and public health care is what we have to be looking out for. Government cannot do it all so we need to encourage the private health care facilities”, the Minister added.
