The USD 66,624 facility donated by Mr and Mrs Iden, a German philanthropic couple has a residential unit for health workers and would serve 16 communities in the Municipality.

Mr Richard Okai, Integrated Programmes Director, WVIG, who handed over the facility said its completion fulfilled the vision of the Organisation and its donors in ensuring that the most vulnerable in the area had access to quality health care.

He said World Vision was on a steady march towards total healthcare in Krachi East, having constructed four such facilities since 2004 aside other health interventions and programmes.

Mr Okai called on the Assembly and the communities to own the compound and support efforts at maintaining good health by working to reduce non-communicable diseases.

Madam Theresa Bruku, the Municipal Health Director projected that the compound would serve over 35,000 people including; those living in island communities on the Volta Lake whose proximity to existing health facilities remained a critical challenge for healthcare delivery.

She said a total of ten compounds had so far been provided in the Municipality with 31 CHPS zones serving 115,000 out of the 140,000 population.

Mr Michael Gyato, the Deputy Minister for Sanitation and water Resources who is also the Member of Parliament for Krachi East Constituency promised to ensure roads were constructed to make the facilities more accessible.

The Deputy Minister earlier donated delivery beds worth GHC 60,000 to be distributed among CHPS compounds in the Municipality and also extended electricity to Cement and it’s adjoining communities with a further promise of engaging stakeholders on facilitating easier access to power.

He cautioned against child labour in the lake region, and called on chiefs to prioritise education and take advantage of Government’s free education policy.

he Cement CHPS compound has ante-natal, recovery, and retention rooms, stores, a pharmacy, consulting, and cold rooms, but yet to be equipped and would have a midwife, community health and an enrolled nurse.

World Vision also provided a modern water facility for use by the community whose only source of “potable” water was the Volta Lake.

A health management committee with members from the beneficiary communities was inaugurated to help manage healthcare delivery in the area.

Mr Patrick Jilimah, the Municipal Chief Executive promised to ensure the compound received all needed support.
