He further commended the efforts of the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon Vincent Sowah-Odote who had also embarked on a similar project in his constituency and further congratulated the Ablekuma West lawmaker Ursula Owusu for also providing toilet in her constituency.
Visiting homes in La Dadekotopon on Tuesday to mark the World Toilet Day, the Deputy Sanitation and Water Resources Minister said President Nana Akufo-Addo has said open defection is not dignifying and citizens should do away with it.
Speaking to journalists after his tour in an interview he noted that the government has invested a lot to keep Ghana away from dirt and end open defecation, hence it is time for the citizens to do that part.
“When there is a toilet facility next door why should you stand by a wall and urinate, why should you litter? Some people do not see it as wrong when they have done some of these things for the last forty years, so it has become part of them”, he said.
Mr. Yaw Patrick Boamah urged the media to assist the Ministry in their campaign to end open defecation and ensure there is good sanitation practice.
“Those going to rent rooms should make sure landlords have toilets in their homes, how do you live in dignity when you take someone you have married home and there is no toilet there. We say water is life, but sanitation is dignity and the media would have to help us in this campaign”
