Addressing farmers and community members at Koraso, Mr. Isaac Osei, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to ensure that more rural jobs are created to help reduce rural-urban migration.

In addition, he said PERD is aimed at shifting from the over-reliance on the production and export of cocoa and also diversifying the country's agriculture sector.

The DCE touted government’s initiatives of creating avenues to improve the Agriculture sector and invest in people especially the rural farmer. He urged the farmers to take advantage of the various Agricultural interventions and incentives to increase production and improve their livelihoods.

The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Frederick Danso said that Agriculture remains the main source of livelihood for a majority of the people in the district. “More than 70 per cent of the people are to farming.” He said.

He explained that, under the project, farmers will not only received free seedlings but will be supported technically for a successful cashew production in the district. He encouraged the beneficiaries to work hard for the success and sustainability of the programme.

“I encourage you to work hard for the success of this programme. Its sustainability is dependent on your success” he said.

The beneficiary farmers expressed their profound gratitude to the government for the initiative and thus promise to work very hard to increase cashew production in the district.
