According to him, the Assembly is also putting plans in place to deal with those who indulged in indiscriminate felling of trees.

The MCE, who said this when he launched this year’s Green Ghana Day at the Bidieso M/A school in Obuasi, further revealed that the assembly is also considering reviewing its by-laws to incorporate disciplinary actions against those who destroys the vegetation cover.

Touching on the importance of the programme, Mr. Adansi-Bonah said the Obuasi community has seen huge portions of its green vegetation depleted as a result of both illegal and legal mining activities.

He thus added that the Green Ghana initiative by the government will enhance national awareness of the necessity for collective action towards restoration of degraded landscape in the country.

He said the Assembly will work with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) as well as the Physical Planning department to identify open places in the municipality to grow grasses and plant trees.

He also indicated that Obuasi has been given 19,000 seedlings to be distributed freely to Churches, individuals and groups among others.
