The campaign, seeks to draw attention to the tourism potential of the Okere District in the Eastern Region by encouraging people to explore its natural environment, landscapes and local communities through walking and other outdoor activities.

The initiative also aims to position Okere as an attractive destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers and tourists interested in experiencing the district’s environmental and cultural heritage.

As part of the campaign, the organisers prepared for the first ‘Walk Okere’ mass walk, scheduled for February 14, 2026. The event was intended to bring together residents, visitors and other participants to experience the district’s attractions while promoting physical activity and community participation.

The mass walk was expected to provide an opportunity for participants to discover the natural beauty of Okere and appreciate the potential of walking tourism as a means of attracting visitors to the area.

Eco-tourism has the potential to support local economic development by creating opportunities for tour guides, food vendors, transport operators, accommodation providers and other small businesses. Increased visitor numbers can also provide incentives for communities to preserve their natural surroundings and promote local cultural experiences.

The ‘Get Okere Walking’ campaign therefore represents an effort to connect tourism promotion with community development, healthy living and environmental appreciation.

Through initiatives of this nature, Okere can work towards expanding its tourism profile and creating opportunities for residents to benefit from the district’s natural and cultural resources.

The campaign is expected to contribute to broader efforts to promote Okere as a destination for eco-tourism and outdoor recreation, while encouraging greater public interest in the district’s attractions.
