No child should be left not immunized MCE

Mr. Anthony K.K. Sam, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), has underlined the need to make sure that no child is left unimmunized.

That, he said, was necessary to prevent children dying from measles, neonatal tetanus or suffering lifelong paralysis.

He was performing the West Regional launch of the Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (IPV) which provides serum immunity to all three types of poliovirus, resulting in protection against paralytic poliomyelitis.

The MCE noted that immunization was one of the most cost-effective interventions that had impacted positively on public health.

A healthy population, he added,was an important wealth for every nation and must be jealously guarded to achieve development and economic prosperity.

It is for this reason that an enhanced commitment from all stakeholders, health workers and caregivers remains imperative now than ever to ensure ultimate elimination targets are achieved for these preventable diseases.

Dr. Kofi Asemanyi-Mensah, the Deputy Regional Health Director, said the IPV injection was meant to boost the protection of children against polio.

We are only adding additional vaccine to better fight the polio disease, he stated.

Children from 14 weeks are eligible for the new vaccine, and he said, it was safe to give multiple injections at a go.

He called for parents and caregivers to cooperate with healthcare providers to sustain the gains made in childhood disease control.
