Professor George Gyan Baffuor, a representative of the President for the inauguration of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly addressing members noted that development thrives where there is unity of purpose. “The President of the Republic is convinced that proper development would come to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) when the staff and Assembly members decide to collaborate and work together for better outcomes” he stated.
He therefore urged them to be focused on projects and initiatives that would bring development into the communities in the Asokwa Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Chief Akwannuasah Gyimah also appealed to Assembly members to put the interests of the communities they represent above any other personal interest they may have, adding that the Assembly work has been mostly sacrificial and something that demands commitment by its players.
“I urge you to be more concerned with the development of the communities you represent than any other thing so that collectively with the staff of this Assembly we can work to achieve tangible results for our people”, the MCE noted.
Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa Madam Patricia Appiagyei, commended the Assembly Members for demonstrating the unity of purpose and urged them to use the mandates the people in their communities gave to them to spearhead development initiatives for Asokwa. “Let your mandates guide you to seek development in your localities so that your people will know that they sent worthy representatives to the Assembly”, Madam Appiagyei noted.
The Asokwa Municipal Assembly later at the event confirmed Nana Yaw Wiredu, the Assembly Member of Ahensan Estate as Presiding Member, having filed as sole candidate after the opening of nomination by the Electoral Commission.
Nana Yaw Wiredu obtained a 100% endorsement from the 12 elected assembly members, six (6) government appointees and the MCE during the vote conducted to confirm him as PM.
Addressing the Assembly after taking office as the new Presiding Member Nana Yaw Wiredu thanked the members for showing good faith in him. He promised to reciprocate the gesture by working hard to ensure that the Asokwa Municipality becomes a beacon of hope.
