Offinso North holds median Meet the Press

The Offinso North District Assembly in the Ashanti Region has held its median meet the press series at Akumadan, the district capital during which the District Chief Executive, Hon. David Kwasi Asare accounted for the government’s achievements since day one.

Addressing the press, which also included traditional authorities, head of departments and party functionaries, the DCE indicated that different projects and programmes which the assembly and central government have undertaken in the district had some completed and others at various degrees of completion.

The projects, which were executed using internally generated funds, included education, health, agriculture, roads, security, employment and social protection among others.

On education, Hon. David Asare said the district can boost of four (4) senior schools including Akumadan Senior High, Nkenkaasu Senior High, Wiafe Akenteng Senior High at Afrancho, and Asouso Senior High schools.

He said to ease congestion resulting from the implementation of the free SHS policy; the government has awarded contracts for the construction of Boys and Girls Dormitories at Akumadan Senior High, and, Six Classroom Block at Akumadan Senior High, adding that head and assistant Head Masters’ Bungalow at Wiafe Akenteng Senior High School and Nkenkaasu Senior High Schools respectively.



Mr. Asare indicated that 75 students in the District have benefitted from scholarships worth Sixty thousand Ghana Cedis; (GH? 60,000.00) that has been allocated to the district to enable them to pursue various courses in tertiary institutions throughout the country.

On agriculture, the DCE said due to the Planting for food and jobs initiative, the district chose cashew as the main cash crops and supported farmers with farm inputs to nurse 600.000 cashew seedlings in 2017 and 1,000,000 cashew seedlings and 75, 000 coffee seedlings in 2018.out of which 9,916 farmers benefited from the cashew seedlings and only 8 farmers took coffee seedling made 6687 males 3127 females for cashew and 7 males and 1 female for coffee respectively.

According to Mr Asare, the assembly received two (2) tractors and accessories, ten (10) power tillers and accessories, four (4) water pumps and accessories, twenty (20) motorized spraying machines as farm Machineries from the Ministry of Agric. through Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to help improve the face of agriculture in the district in the coming year.

The DCE touched on the construction of Mankramso CHPS compound, installation of 10 three Phase Transformers, Solar Panel Rural Telephone Installation in 6 Communities,

Acquisition of Ultra-Modern Local Government Service Conference and Human Resource Development Centre at Akumadan, Ultra-Modern X’Ray Machine at Nkenkaasu Hospital, and the extension of electricity to 22 communities in the district.
