DCE urges intensified revenue mobilization mechanism

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Wassa East district in Western Region, Mr Wilson Arthur has urged revenue collectors of the assembly to intensify mechanisms of mobilizing internally generated funds to aid the assembly meet its fiscal demands.

The DCE stated this when he was addressing a cross section of assembly members at its 6th ordinary meeting of the 7th session at Daboase last week.

According to him, revenue collectors of the assembly were only able to mobilize GHs 5,480,474.10 out of the estimated amount of GHs 9,637,968.94 for the year 2016, an amount he said hindered the assembly from achieving its set objectives.  

Mr. Arthur who expressed his disappointment to the situation made the assembly handicap in executing most of its entire core mandates and urged the team to develop a more practical means of mobilizing funds for the assembly.

He revealed that government grants and other receipts including the district assemblies’ common fund also amounted to GHs 4,275,547.53 while revenue from traditional sources stood at GHs 1,204,926.57.

He further disclosed that an amount of GHs 8,065,569.45 has been estimated for this year and that internally generated fund component of the estimated revenue was GHs 572,360.00. He added that GHs 135, 509, 42 has been collected between January and March 2017.
