BIRIM S: Stakeholders to discuss $1m per constituency next week

The Birim South District Assembly in the Eastern Region has scheduled Wednesday and Thursdays of next week to engage various stakeholders in the district over the utilization of the “one million dollars per constituency”

The Ministry for Special Development Initiatives has already announced that $275 million is ready for disbursement in August this year.

And Mr. Richmond Amposah, District Chief Executive of Birim South in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com said the stakeholders meeting is aimed at involving the citizenry in the constituencies in the formulation, planning and execution process of all projects that will be decided on so that the people will feel part of the project and this will stimulate community ownership.

He said it is always a best practice to involve the people who will be beneficiaries of the projects to be part of every discussions in choosing projects that will meet their needs.

Obviously intrigued by the fact that his district has two constituencies, Achiase with Mr. Robert Kwasi Amoah as the Member of Parliament, and Mr. Kennedy Osei Nyarko as Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru thus making it two million dollars for the district, the DCE said the money will really enhance the development of the district, boost people’s lives and reduce poverty.

He said the various MPs will attend the meetings alongside other dignitaries for in-depth deliberations.  

The sector, Minister Hawa Koomson, explained that 70 percent of the $1 million dollars for each constituency, will be spent on government’s priority projects such as the “One district-one factory, one village one dam, warehouses for planting for food and jobs among others.

According to the Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Hawa Koomson, 30 percent of the 1 million dollars will be used for priority constituency needs, while 70 percent will go into government’s priority projects such as the “One district-one factory, one village one dam, warehouses for planting for food and jobs among others.
