MCE calls for joint effort in fightagainst HIV/AIDS

Mr. Elijah Adansi-Bonah, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has called for everybody to join the fight against the spread of the HIV/AIDS infection.

They should overcome complacency and accept to go for voluntary testing to know their status.

He, additionally, counselled them not to stigmatize those living with the diseases but to show them love and support them to live normal lives.

He was speaking at a ceremony held to mark the municipal celebration of the World AIDS Day in the gold mining town of Obuasi.

Mr.Adansi-Bonah underlined the need to up the HIV/AIDS education campaign in the area to help the people to do the right things to protect themselves from the disease.

He rallied businesses and NGOs in the municipality to back the awareness creation campaign to stop the spread of the infection.

Mr. John Okwan Addai, Wellness Officer, AngloGold Ashanti, said it was refreshing that progress had been made in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission.

He said, that, combined with the other public health interventions gave hope that the battle against HIV/AIDS could be won.
