At the Kpassa Junior High School B Park, a total of 33 contingents of pupils and students numbering 1,980 selected from both public and private educational institutions in the district participated in the anniversary parade.

Mr Paul Levin Gyato, Nkwanta North Caretaker District Chief Executive (DCE) reviewed the parade and took the salute with support from Mr Kingsley Owusu, the District Police Commander, amidst music provided by the Phinaz Brass band.

In a speech, Mr Gyato called for rekindling of the Ghanaian spirit of patriotism, nationalism and the communal zeal to deepen the bond of togetherness towards building a œBetter Ghana.

He said the pioneering forebears led by Dr Kwame Nkrumah fought a good fight to make Ghana the Black Star of Africa and that this achievement which continued to glow, needed to be sustained for posterity to emulate.

Mr Gyato challenged students to emulate the selflessness and sense of patriotism of the forebears and to live upright lifestyles anchored on honesty, hard work, obedience and respect for authority.

He  said government would continue to provide accessible, quality and affordable education as manifested by the Assembly setting aside 65 per cent of its annual development budget to support education in the district.

He cited the construction of school infrastructure, support for Science and Technology Innovation Education, scholarship schemes for brilliant but needy students, provision of basic needs of the physically challenged children, promotion of girl-child education and support for nurses and teacher trainees as part of government's interventions to improve the living standards of the people.

"Actualizing the Better Ghana agenda demands all hands on deck irrespective of political colour, dying more for the state and
mainstreaming nationalism and patriotism", Mr. Gyato declared.

The theme for this year's independence anniversary celebration is Partnership and Innovation for Building a New and Better Ghana,
