The ceremony, marked a major step towards providing traders with improved market infrastructure to support their businesses and create a more organised environment for buying and selling.
The proposed market is expected to provide a suitable trading space for market women, small-scale business owners and other traders who contribute to the local economy. It is also intended to support the broader 24-Hour Economy agenda by creating opportunities for commercial activities to extend beyond conventional business hours.
The initiative is expected to improve the conditions under which traders operate while supporting employment opportunities and increasing economic activity within Suhum and its surrounding communities.
As part of the visit, the Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, also commissioned newly constructed classroom blocks at Adarkwa and Kokooso, highlighting the government's efforts to improve educational infrastructure in the region.
The classroom projects are expected to provide improved learning environments for pupils and teachers, helping to address infrastructure needs and support effective teaching and learning in the beneficiary communities.
Access to adequate classroom facilities is essential to creating a conducive educational environment, reducing pressure on existing infrastructure and supporting the delivery of quality education.
The commissioning of the school blocks, alongside the groundbreaking for the 24-Hour Economy Market, demonstrates attention to both economic development and educational infrastructure within the municipality.
While the market project is expected to strengthen commercial activities and support traders' livelihoods, the school facilities will contribute to improving conditions for teaching and learning in Adarkwa and Kokooso.
The developments form part of broader efforts to improve public infrastructure and support community development in Suhum and the Eastern Region.
