Head of the European Union visits Tamale

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, has received the Head of the European Union, Her Excellency, Ambassador Diana Acconcia, and her delegation at the Tamale International Airport ahead of the 10th Annual Preharvest Agribusiness and Exhibition Conference.

The ceremony which commenced yesterday at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama's Sports Stadium, was themed: Covid-19 and Beyond, a Solutions For Agricultural Transformation; attracted a wide range of People, inclusive was the Minister of State For Agriculture, Dr. Nurah Gyiele, The Deputy Minister For Agriculture Dr. Sagri, Representatives of Ndan Yaa Na, Chiefs, and the clergy.

First of all, as the host Minister, Salifu Saeed, presented his goodwill message by humbly welcoming all participants to the 10Th Annual Preharvest Exhibition and conference, and on behalf of the Chiefs and people of the Northern Region.



He added that the Preharvest event has always been an opportunity for the Northern Region to prove that it is, indeed the "Food Basket of the Nation ", as agriculture is the region's main contribution to Ghana's economy, consistently sustaining its growth and stability and general development of Ghana.

Moreover, According to the Northern Regional Minister, the Conference also provides farmers and stakeholders in the region a valuable opportunity to network and showcase their potentials to investors and value chain actors, as he proceeded with a warm expression of excitement by thanking the organizers of the conference for giving our gallant farmers the chance to showcase their success stories.


Finally, there was a welcome address by the Ambassador, Her Excellency, Diana Acconcia, She said, that, this year Mark's the10th Edition of the event, and it is particularly a symbolic anniversary during this difficult times of Covid-19.

Her Excellency, the Ambassador, revealed that the European Union is committed to supporting Ghana in these difficult times and one of it is by sponsoring this anniversary edition, through the European Union agricultural Program in Ghana --EU -GAP. Which is aimed at promoting value chain, sustainable environmental service delivery, provision of critical infrastructure and financial support to private companies, greater impact in poverty reduction by contributing to increase annual incomes of smallholder farmers, all implemented under the strategic guidance of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture under the planting for food and jobs initiative. Which can also help our upcoming youth in securing permanent jobs along the supported value chain.
